Faisal Alam is a queer-identified Muslim activist of Pakistani descent. Using his own life experience and by exploring the complex history of the Islamic world, Faisal will bring new light onto the lives of an often invisible and silent community: Muslims who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and questioning. Following his lecture, Faisal will moderate a panel featuring queer-identified Kalamazoo College students of color. Panelists will share their own experiences and answer questions around the intersections of sexuality, homophobia, race, ethnicity, and religion. Sponsored by Caribbean Society, Kaledioscope, K-Desi, the Thompson Fund in Religion, Office of Student Involvement, the John E. and Rhea Y. Fetzer Fund, and the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership.
